Australia has suspended about 200 education agents in several countries, including India, from filing online student visa applications on the charge of indulging in fraud, a recognised body of agents today said.
Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI), an organisation formed in 1996 to assure the credibility of agents recruiting students for Australian institutions, said these erring agents will have to “show cause” for their behaviour to regain their access to the online system.
Access arrangements are being reviewed to ensure that online agents meet high standards of performance, it said.
The move assumes significance as Australian government has been saying that a number of unscrupulous agents operating in India are providing misleading information to students, leading to their harassment.
