Sexual harassment of students both young girls and boys, by university professors, college lecturers and school teachers, is an issue little discussed. Not because of the lack of seriousness of the issue but due to the discomfort in addressing private issues. A few years back however, the Supreme Court of India recognized sexual harassment in educational institutions and places of work, as a major issue and came up with a path breaking judgment.
As students or even as member of the teaching fraternity, it would do well for you to know what constitutes sexual harassment in an educational institution, what are your rights and what you can do to gain redressal.
